ARE we really one in Christ? Building the church over the last two centuries in South Africa

26th September 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

A talk by Dr Debby Gaitskell
Tuesday 26 September 2023, at 8pm
Muswell Hill Methodist Church, N10 1PP

This talk will try to think through how Christianity came to South Africa, exploring the response of both the indigenous and “settler” population in an age of empire, segregation and apartheid. What have been the main challenges to building a united Christian community?

Debby Gaitskell, a historian of South Africa who grew up in Cape Town, will feed in some examples of Methodist men and women whose lives help us understand how Christianity grew in South Africa, what it meant to church members, and something of its impact on the wider society.
